Dj looks like old mill will be a force for years to come. Any word on the Annapolis job? And now the glen burnie job? Guest unless your lee Rodgers don't know another coach that has put in 30 years. Not all of us are high school coaches. My years of coaching began in 1985 with a young CYO team and has included recreation teams, AAU teams, High School teams as well as JUCO teams. 30 of these 32 years have been in this county. I am not Lee Rogers but I appreciate our friendship of 20 years. I appreciate your insight into basketball in this county and it is usually pretty spot on. But on this one you could not be farther from the truth.

I will combine my response here...to AAC and the Guest Commentor! First on the vacancies...nothing yet on either. On the Annapolis position there are a few people who could step in, but I am not sure the position has been formally advertised or interviews held. I have talked to several people and encouraged them to apply. That program will have to be built from the bottom up once again as the Feeder program has totally disappeared. Annapolis has some unique problems and unless you have insight into that community you would never know it. I spent 5 years teaching at Bates Middle School just before I retired and trust me....it is an eye opener. I will only mention one name here...because he has told me he would not be interested right now...and that is Aubrey Butler who has been at Eleanor Roosevelt for the last several years. There are some other good ones out there...hopefully one of them will get a shot! On the Glen Burnie position....right now it is really quite! I think its just too early to know on that one....but I have my ear to the ground and will let you know something as soon as I do! On the longevity of Coaches....Guest, I do not think AAC was taking a shot at anyone with his comment, I could be wrong and if I am I hope he corrects me...I think he was just making a statement that Lee Rodgers is the longest tenured Coach in the County right now. With Chuck Miller stepping down last year on the Private School side....if I am not mistaken, Coach Magnum at North County right now follows Lee in years on the job on the public School side! Of the 10 slots that are presently filled.....I think it goes...Lee, Magnum, Smith, Zivic then you have Gray, Dean and Davis all arriving the same year I think, followed by Parker, Dolen, and O'Connor. Now that is talking years Coaching at the High School level. I do agree with the idea that not everyone can be a High School Coach! Trust me, in my more than 40 plus years of Coaching those years I spent at the High School level were the most rewarding, but also the most challenging. I coached three different sports at the High School level (Football, Track and Basketball) and was a Head Track and Basketball Coach at that level. I saw many Coaches come and go during that time...and I saw more than a few fail because never truly appreciated the seriousness of their endeavor. I was fortunate...I had two unbelievable Mentors. I was exposed in my College years to Hall of Fame Coach Jerome Van Meter...the winning-est Coach in the History of West Virginia High School Sports...and was hired for my first Coaching position by Dr. Maurice "Maus" Collins, one of the best Coaches ever to walk the sidelines in the Washington DC area! Heck, it took Maus Collins firing me from that first position and then hiring me to Coach another sport to make me understand the meaning of the sacred trust that I was holding as a High School Coach. There can only be 12 in AA County Public School Girls Basketball. Those who aspire to these positions should truly understand the commitment that it requires to perform that job. I think we have some good ones in this present group....and of course we have the great one (Lee Rogers)! By the way...just heard that Maggie Morrison.. is looking to Coach in AA County!!!* Outstanding selection and another instance of Great Players wanting to return to Coach in the County, either at the Private or Public Level!! * This is a correction from what was earlier posted...giving Maggie a particular position already!! I apologize for any confusion, my reliable source provided the correct information....I just got so excited about the possibility that I misread the information! "Reading is Fundamental"!
