I want to take a moment and talk about some Individual Players as we start getting close to the end of the Season! I want to talk about my "Predators", those who are playing some outstanding individual defense this year. Right now I have three players who are fighting hard to be my "Defensive Player of the Year"!! That's right, I am going to Highlight a Defensive Player or Players who are Impact Players in AA County. Now so far this season I have focused on Steals and Blocks as key figures of good Defensive Play, but today it was brought to my attention, that sometimes a true "Predator" can also be a "Lock Down" Defender who may not steal a lot of balls or block a lot of shots, but does night after night take the other teams best player and literally shuts them down. Today I am going to highlight just such a Player...#1 London Best from Broadneck! London gets her share of Steals, but she does lot more for the Bruins...in most instances she holds the person she is guarding to single digits. This year the only exception to that is so far has been #23 Bailey Harris from St Mary's who scored 11 points and #1 Caitlyn Cornwell of Northeast who also scored 11 points. In short London has held her opponents to an average of 6.1 points a game! This is especially important because Broadneck tends to play Man to Man Defense almost exclusively, where a most other teams will play some form of Zone. If you had to compare London's defensive style to a known "Predator" I would call her a "Tiger"!! She is patient, uses good posture and position, seems to possess the ability to predicts her opponents moves, then she makes a quick adjustment to counter that move with the goal of preventing her player from scoring! London is only a sophomore and she has long arms and quick hands, keep your eyes on this kid, she ain't done yet!!

Okay Folks we are at that point where the Regular Season is all but over!! Right now, Glen Burnie has sown up the Regular Season Girls Title and awaits the outcome of the Severna Park v Crofton game tomorrow night to determine who they will face in the County Championship Game!! While waiting for that outcome let's talk about the League Leaders in several Statistical Categories....and trust me, some of you will be surprised! I will give you the Top Three in each of the Categories: Scoring#32 Ava Wooster - Southern 25.4 ppg #15 Amourie Porter - Glen Burnie 21.2 ppg #10 Kiki Scott - Annapolis 18.0 ppg Rebounds#32 Ava Wooster - Southern 13.8 rpg #15 Amourie Porter - Glen Burnie 10.6 rpg #30 Kasey Slade - Chesapeake 10.3 rpg Assist#33 Rae Ogle South River - 5.4 apg #11 Cassidy Wilkerson - Glen Burnie 3.4 apg #15 Amourie Porter - Glen Burnie 3.2 apg Steals#33 Rae Ogle - South River 5.9 spg #5 Lilly Spilker - Severna Park 5.8 spg #15 Amourie Porter - Glen Burnie 5.7 spg Double/Doubles#32 Ava Wooster - Southern 15 #15 Amourie Porter - Glen Burnie 13 #30 Kasey Slade - Chesapeake 9 Now before some of you get all hot under the collar, I know you going to say...well what about ....! Here is the problem, unless we can assess the Stats for a particular Player there is no way we can award them the honors they deserve. Some schools don't submit stats at all and others had less than (5) games that we could assess! All of the stats you see are based on at least 14 games!! There is still some time left for stats to be posted, but right now this is what we have!! I will be Highlighting the rest of my All Defensive Team as the week goes on!!

Let's talk Predators!! Today I want to talk about #5 Lilly Spilker of Severna Park, the "Leopard"!! Prior to her recent injury Spilker had been one of those standout defenders for Severna Park who was doing the kind of "Blue Collar" defensive work that the Falcons have been known for in recent years, just more consistently. In 18 games for the Falcons this year, Spilker had 108 total steals for a 5.8 per game average. But unlike some of her fellow Predators, Lilly tended to get them in a variety of different ways. Her quick hands and court knowledge allow her to switch off of players while playing off ball, dart in and "Ambush" an opposing ball handler making a clean steal off the "Double Team". Like the Leapard, Spilker is very unpredictable in her attacks and never appears to be out of position in her approach. She plays off her teammates and always appears to play within herself! When you talk about Severna Parks Season and the fact that tomorrow they play in the AA County Championship and will also be the #1 Seed in the Regionals, remember #5 Lilly Spilker the Leopard, she is also a true Predator!
