Winter sports parents and coaches - Did you see how easy it was to change football season from a non-competitive season to a 4-game competitive season; it appears that outside pressure was able to convince the board to find a way for the fall season to take place and for football to be competitive. I am happy for any sport that gets to compete this year, especially spring sport athletes who had nothing last year. However, winter sports are getting the short end of the stick. Why? Winter sports usually have smaller rosters than fall and spring sports, which reduces the amount of contact tracing required.
With a little creative thinking, we could play a competitive 10 game season if we started on April 1, 2021 and concluded the season on May 31, 2021. Hopefully by April 1st, the vast majority of people in the county will have been vaccinated but if not, we can reduce the chances of exposure to the COVID19 virus playing a limited schedule. I propose the schools in the northern part of the county play other northern schools and southern schools played south schools twice in the same week. For example, Annapolis plays Broadneck at Broadneck on Tuesday. Girls play at Broadneck and boys play at Annapolis. On Friday we just flip sites. If a child or coach were to pop positive after one of the games, contact has been limited to those two teams. Nope. I don't care that we're playing the same team two times in the same week. WE'RE PLAYING!! The season could conclude with a Senior All Star game and county-wide salute to all the seniors. The thing is, we need parents and athletes to help convince the board that the season is not lost for our winter athletes. Email, fax, letters, phone calls. Help us plead our case.
