You left out the stud freshman they have. They will definitely be in the mix, but if kiki didn’t transfer they could have been the top team.

Definitely did not leave her out.....she is the New and Interesting piece that I spoke of!! The kid is awesome and actually will give them a different look! She is one of those players who appears easy going until the action starts on the court....then suddenly she gets vocal and active!! Reminds me a lot of a young Harley Herndon from South River (now at Frostburg State)!!

AA County Bball Update:
BroadneckThis year the Bruins of Broadneck will no longer be able to fly under the radar....as a matter of fact they have to be considered one of the teams to deal with in the County. Last years 13-11 record was not a true indicator of how dangerous this team really was. For the 2023/2024 season the Bruins will be returning Seniors... MacKenzie Wharton SG ( Committed to Keystone College) and Samantha Miller SF ( Committed to St. Mary College), as well as Ginger Kerdock PG, and Liberty Chenault-Randall C. Also they will have Juniors.... London Best PG, Summer Stroop, and Katelyn Kearns SG. Broadneck will be one of the best defensive teams in the County as they will return 695hoops All County Defensive Player London Best ( "Predator Award Winner") as well as Miller and Wharton who play just as aggressive. Just a side note....Broadneck almost always man to man defense which sets them aside from most teams in the County (SP being the exception)!! Coach Juan Mckinney said, "This year's team will be fun to watch. We are fast and energetic.... and in order for us to be successful, we must limit turnovers and rebound the basketball.!" Broadneck will be bringing the heat this year people!!

AA County Girls BBall Update:ChesapeakeCoach Maria Gray will be beginning her 10th Year as Head Coach on Mountain Road and once again she has uttered her famous words, "We got work to do, but I am cautiously optimistic"!! Which means in layman terms, "Man do I have a surprise for you"!! In my opinion Maria runs one of the most consistent programs in the County, and this is highlighted in the fact that she makes use of her feeder system at Lake Shore to keep track of up and coming talent. As a result they will once again bring their "Team Oriented Blue Collar" approach to the 2023/2024 County Season". The Cougars this season will highlight Seniors Kasey Slade C ( committed to William Paterson), Ava Arruda PG, Maggie Lawrence F (transfer from NE), Kellie Harring G, Kaila Ansted G/F; Sophomores Kiery Matkins G/F, and Allison Schaefer F. According to Coach Gray Chesapeake will focus on controlling the Boards and making other teams pay from the Foul Line. With Ava Arruda playing a solid PG and Kasey Slade ( County Rebound Leader) the "Mighty Minions"..my personal nickname for the Cougars....will be a bit bigger than last year, but just as aggressive!! Recommend opposing teams catch the Cougars before Christmas....because when this team jells it is going to be tough to deal with!!

AA County Girls Bball Update:
South RiverI have difficulty in realizing that Mike Zivic has been at South River as their Head Coach of Girls Basketball for 17 years!!! Seems like it was just yesterday that we both were Coaching JV Football...him at South River and me at Meade....one of us has aged and the other looks almost the same!! That of course makes Mike the second longest tenured Coach in AA County behind the Legendary Lee Rogers at Arundel!! Unlike both Lee and I Mike Zivic does not appear to have a lot of Gray Hair and if you take a look at this years Seahawk Team you might understand why!! The Seahawks will be returning 9 of their 13 Players from last years team and will be bringing up at least 5 players from last years JV Team which means although young South River will be one of the most experienced teams in the County. With Premier Players like #24 Ryliegh Adams (695hoops #1 Ranked PF in the County) and #2 Guard Skylar Woodyard and #10 Forward Karlee Hawkins the Seahawks are set to take the County by storm. These players will be bolstered by a deep bench with Seniors Maggie Groves, Kamryn Lee and Ksenya Dittrich providing much needed support. But here is the weirdest thing about the depth of South River....they have three ( you heard me right I said three) players out with Injuries!! And at least two of those players are clear "695hoops County Impact Players". Kierra West might not return this season...but Rae Ogle ( 695hoops All County Defensive Player) is expected to return late in the Season. Samatha Clarke is the other injured player who appeared to coming into her own last year during the Regionals...no word on her return date as of yet. Coach Zivic said, "We will need to overcome Injuries to those three Key Players from last year's team but I am optimistic that we will be competing for the County Championship when its all said and done"! It is that eternal Optimism that keeps the gray away from Mike Zivic....and this year should be no different. Just a quick side note. South River has one of the best Feeder Support Programs of all the High Schools in AA County. And this is saying a lot, with how much Maria Gray over at Chesapeake does with her Feeders. South River will be hosting a "Youth Night" during there Home Opener....where they will be inviting "Youth Players" from their Feeder Programs to the game and asking that they where their Team Jerseys....I believe they are getting free or reduced admissions....which is a great way to introduce your High School Program to future players. Way to go South River!!!
