AA County Girls Bball Update:
Southern Beth Tompkins will be starting her Third Season as Head Coach of the Southern Bulldogs and this promises to be one of her most exciting to date!! Last year the Dawgs went 9-13, but considering the number of injuries to key players that Southern suffered last year, most of us considered it a moral victory that they were able to field a team at all down the stretch. But this year the Dawgs are all healthy and will be returning six (6) Seniors, to include PG #30 Sydney Shaw who missed the entire 2022 Season because of a shoulder injury. You put Shaw on the court with her Leadership and Awareness along with #32 Ava Wooster ( 2022 AA County Scoring Champion) and Southern will be a very uncomfortable opponent for County Teams to face. Look for Coach Tompkins to put her bench to great use supporting her two Seniors with Gabrielle Tompkins (G), Alissa Jacks (F), Presley Marks (G), Mandi Mulhern (G), Juniors Charlotte Green (G), Kaelyn Page (C), Sophomore Raelyn MacDonald (F), Freshman Huntyr Marks (G), Abigail Mackiewicz (G) filling out the Starting Line and Off the Bench Support. Coach Tompkins put it this way, "We are excited about the potential of our roster, which consists of six seniors, each possessing unique skill sets and leadership qualities, and five underclassmen, including two talented freshmen. The underclassmen have shown great promise, and our coaches are thrilled to see how the team comes together. The team's blend of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming talent positions us as a contender, ready to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season". I saw Southern in the scrimmage against Northern and I tell you what.....I will give County Teams the same advice that I gave about Chesapeake. You better catch Southern early because when they jell....its going to be a rough night in Harwood!!!

AA County Girls Bball Update:
Remaining Teams:
With Start of Non-Conference play upon us, let me give you a quick rundown on the remaining Girls Teams in AA County! Special Note: They are not in any particular order and do not reflect how I think they will do this year!! Arundel - Coach Rogers will be beginning his 34th year in Gambrils and as he reported to the Gazette, "Will be taking a wait and see approach to things". The Wildcats will return two Starters from last year, but once again this is Arundel and Lee Rogers....wait for the second half of the season before you make your Judgements. Crofton - Coach Mason is starting his 3rd Season at Crofton and the Cardinals will be young but gutsy! Look for Crofton to rely on Vanessa Carmicheal, Mollee Corso, and Skye Mathews to keep them relevant early, keep your eye on a couple of his younger players(one young lady can shoot the lights out )!! Glen Burnie - Coach Porter coming off a State Championship is as quiet as ever, but he told the gazette, "We want to compete at a high level.....but we will take it one day at a time"! The Gophers will be lead by the "Munford Sisters"....Trinity and Starr, as well as Senior Mckenzie Gilbert and (Freshman) Makaila Jones. If Porter ever decides to come out of the "Zone" and play some 'Man defense" look for both of the "Sisters" to compete for County All Defense Honors!1 I think Glen Burnie will surprise some people this Season! Meade - Coach Harmon will be starting her 2nd Season at Meade in a hopeful mode. Look for Seniors Kennedy House and Evhan Smith to lead this years effort for the Mustangs! Northeast - Coach Parker will be looking to improve upon his 3-19 record of last Season. This season the Eagles will be looking to Jell early and overcome the lost of several players due to Graduation and Transfer. Look for Seniors Julia Fox and Faith Schmitz (I like this Kid) to provide good support to underclassmen Madison Walter, Madison Burris, Brynn Jones and Maliah Parker!! North County - Coach Cierra Lucas will be in her second season of a complete rebuid of the Knights Program. Saw them in a recent scrimmage and liked some of what I saw!! A work in progress!! Old Mill - Coach Henry Fuller is also in rebuild mode at Old Mill and with the Patriots scheduled to have a sister School next year we will also have to be in a wait and see mode. Injuries and transfers have been a concern for this year ( Junior "Pooh" Brown is out with an ACL) but you can look for some new players to provide Old Mill with building blocks for the future! Severna Park - Coach Kris Dean will be coming off of one of SP's most successful seasons and as usual the Falcons will be coming at you with an "All Hands on Deck" Blue Collar approach!! They should be returning "All County Defensive Player Maria Bragg, but add to that players like Maddy Sullivan, and Gabby Rosati as well as the duo of Feemster and Trent, and what you have is the ingredients for another successful Severna Park Season! Well there you have it....all 13 County Teams! So as I say each year.....Let the Games begin!!! P.S. I will be covering a select number of Non-Conference games this week, so keep you eyes right here for updates!! Some other faces to watch in 2023!!

Severna Park over Severn 43-36 - Not a pretty opener but a win is a win for Coach Dean and the Falcons!
