Folks as far as I am concerned Old Mill crossed the Rubicon last night in its 77-56 win over North Point! Coach Smith called it removing a load from his shoulders. He talked of having to carry all year the burden of expectation.....the expectation that you should win the 4A East Region. My reluctance to crown Old Mill as a "Great" team was based upon their tendency to kind of not put a foot so to speak on the neck of an opponent when that opponent is down. Now some of you might call that cruel.....but truly great teams win those games they are suppose to win, but also dominate those games when the opponent is suppose to be tough. Last night Old Mill reached that level!! There was one very crucial moment in the 1st quarter....after making a substitution (at his normal time ) Imani Alfi was called for a tech foul. The circumstances were strange in that a NP player had committed an offense earlier that has all year been a tech foul....slamming the ball to the floor. Alfi appeared at first to do a "Good Sportsman" type thing by alerting the ref to a NP player that was in distress. When after some consultation it appeared that the player was okay...she even appeared to thank Alfi....Imani gave the kid some applause and the ref teched her! Now this appeared to send OM into a tail spin. But it was the third period....where OM proved itself to be a team to be deal with, as they did put their foot on the throat of NP....and I was glad to see that they did not let up in the final period. It is important to note...that during that 21 point third period Brandi Hall had 9 points, 2 steals and gave 2 of the most outstanding assists as the Lady Patriots just seemed to take the heart out of North Point. The last of the assist....a no look pass to Kanesha Alfi brought the gym to its feet.!! Rebecca Lee....although not scoring many points...was just a force under the basket, while Jaylene Greene put in a solid 17 points. And then there was Alaysa Dailey....who once again for some reason teams decide to foul at the end....dropping free throws when it counts. This team is ready to go for it later this week at SECU.....but what is more important as far as I am concerned.....we have to deal with this group for at least another two years in AA County.....AWESOME!!

Lady Patriots: Congratulations on your season and continue your journey to become 4A State Champions. You have weathered all of the critiques (some by me) and responded triumphantly. The Swamp is wishing you, your coaches, and supporters much success!

Got some good news last night! We still have three players in the running for Invitations to the Senior Shootout! If we can get all three in...then that would be a record 9 seniors from AA County being invited to the end of season event. That says a lot about what 21,000+ views to this forum will do in perking the interest in others about what's happening here in AA County Bball! Key your fingers crossed!
