GM Bball Enthusiast,
As we countdown to the 2017 Keough Classic Fall League, here is a recap of a few games from last year:
AA County Girls High School Basketball 2016-17 Season Sep 11, 2016 at 10:58am Quote Post Options Post by gatorsswamp on Sep 11, 2016 at 10:58am
Gm,
I'm sorry to kept you all hanging yesterday but the action got too intense for me to keep up. I was multi-tasking. So let me continue and try to offer a synopsis of yesterday's tip off at the swamp. First of all, the heat was unbearable--that's nothing new for those of you who train or have trained there. We like to think of it as the ideal training grounds for our Lady Gators! π
Game 1 was a doozy (is that even a word?) with both teams allowing their stars to shine and role-players impact the game. For Catonsville, Ms. Dickey and Alford paced their team to a 6 point halftime lead. However, it was the 2nd half that saw contributions and big shots made by the entire Cougars' squad. All 8 of yesterday's players scored with Ms. Brooke, Ms. Hallie, and Ms. Haley leading the way to land an impressive 47-41 win in the contest.
Game 2 was scheduled for Howard and South River. There was some miscommunication with Howard be awarded the forfeit. Nonetheless, they featured their talents agains a thrown together Keough team. Howard was impressive with their precision offense, sharp cuts, pinpoint passing and accurate shooting. They passed the ball very well and demonstrated great, team chemistry. And although each player had great moments, it was Ms. Sam and her long range shooting that set the pace. I give credit to my ad hoc Lady Gators team (Syd, KB, Tee, Britt, & Tweety) who battled long and hard with 5 and then 4 players (1 fouled out). You keep the game exciting and interesting. Of course, you had to use all of your timeouts yesterday just to avoid collapsing. You surely put up a valiant effortπͺ only to succumb to a 61-47 final score.
Game 3 featured Mount Hebron versus North County. Howard County will have to look out for incoming energizing freshman PG Ms. Tori who was all over the floor. Her defensive efforts were noticed by us all. Also, Coach Bell has weapons in Ms. Natalie and Ms. Clarke who demonstrated that they can stroke it from outside of the arc. North County stayed in striking distance all game due to the collective efforts Ms. Scott, Ms. L.F, Ms. Biggs, Ms. McQuade, and Ms. C.T.H. Final score favored Mount Hebron 31-18.
Game 4 was probably the featured game of the day. The Blue Angels (high schoolers from an array of basketball programs ranging from Virginia to Pennsylvania coached by the distinguished Phil Straw) took the court against Parkdale. The Angels received notable contributions from several players but it was Ms. Jess Foster who connected on 6 long balls that secured the 47-43 win. For Parkdale, PG-Ms. Briel was fantastic. She was a scoring machine with an "I do not want to lose" heart and mentality that was evident each time she touched the court. Ms. Drew, Ms. Nemo, and Ms. Reagan were solid in their performances as well. I can see why Coach Lawrence is excited about the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for other games....
